Going Underground

The President of Sidwell Materials Inc. Jeffrey R. Sidwell knew the day would come when Sidwell would have to develop a different mining method other than Surface Mining to insure long term reserves of stone. In 2004 Jeff got with the Professor of Mining Engineering at The University of Kentucky, Dr. Kot VonUnrug. Together they developed an underground mine plan for the White Cottage site. In December 2009, Ted DiNardo, a mining engineer with 30 years experience was hired to help bring the plan to life.

On July 26, 2010 Sidwell Materials Inc. Black 17 Underground Mine was brought to life, making this one of three active underground mines in the State of Ohio. There are currently six employees including a foreman, and a contract blaster working full time in hte underground process. This four million dollar investment has given the mine expectancy of one hundred years plus. This certainly accomplishes Jeff Sidwell's goal of insuring long term quarrying of Quality Limestone at the White Cottage, Ohio location.
